As a conglomerate with over a hundred owned
subsidiaries and many more in which we have a partial stake, TVDC's overall
organization chart is inconveniently complex to depict. Many management
teams are shared across more than one company. See the individual
companies' web sites for a look at how they are run.
Sebestyén's great-uncle Yanosz Sebestyén was
one of the two founders of Trü-Virtvec
Construction, in a small town just outside today's HQ of Sajoszentpéter. Nándor
did not simply inherit the helm -- the family is large, and many members are
involved in TVDC management. Now 62, Nándor did not take control of TVDC as a
whole until twelve years ago, having served since 1495 in the management of numerous
subsidiaries. For ten years before that he served as a civil engineer in
three of them. Nándor's degree in Civil Engineering was earned at Fitzallaine
Polytechnic, and while he does not micromanage TVDC's many engineering projects,
he does take an active interest in them. Woe unto the project manager who
tries to put something over on the big boss -- they're likely to find themselves
defending their choice of bridge type or drill rig, down to the boderu.
Nándor is married, to a current Sajoszentpéter city council member, and has five
children, 28 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In his spare time,
which he does insist upon, he raises and rides Appaloosas.
Gyorg has outlived two beloved wives, and now lives with a niece and her husband
in the woods north of Sajoszentpéter. He commutes to the city to conduct TVDC
business in a chauffered red 1432 Valanian Stallion roadster, down the road his
fathers' firm built for the megye.
Maria is a master juggler, in a business sense. The component companies of
TVDC are not required to operate in the same manner, though there are some standards
set out by HQ. They must nevertheless work together, and Maria is who ensures
that that is done smoothly. No business unit is permitted to subvert another's
activities. She requires that any competition is worked out internally, before
projects are bid upon. Instead of two TVDC subsidiaries bidding against one
another, those interested in the same work she encourages to submit combined bids.
In her position Maria operates partly as despot and partly as diplomat. She
has the linguistic skills for diplomacy, speaking six of the Confederation's official
tongues. The despotism she came by honestly, having briefly done a stint as
headmistress of a girls' secondary school before leaving teaching for business.
She has twin degrees in languages and economics, and a master's degree in business.
Unlike her boss Nándor, Maria doesn't have much of a life outside TVDC -- she has
a downtown Sajoszentpéter apartment near TVDC headquarters but is seldom there,
instead constantly travelling from subsidiary, to customer, to subsidiary, back to HQ.
