Pochata Plains Nation Future

The future of Pochata looks bright, if one looks far enough ahead.   Our people are not afraid of hard work.   The result for our children and their children will be worth it.

freight runs. Waterway reconstruction will
return her to Aztlan-to-ocean service.Categories of reconstruction projects include

  • Dam repair / s'Anaa clearing
  • Railway rebuilding
    - internal
    - to Aztlan
    - to Tavatia
  • Decontamination - soil and water
  • Energy redevelopment
    - hydroelectric
    - coal

Dam repair - western

Dams and hydroelectric power plants in western PPN from Ross' Landing northward along the Sh'naqtan River - refer to small map or detail map for locations

Szaxitec Creek Dam - too much spillingSzaxitec Creek Dam - shared with Aztlan
Dam damaged during war but repaired, at lake level three meters below original level.   Power plant (Pochata side) works, at reduced output.   Locks OK and work fine.

Potatoferry Dam - shared with Aztlan
Dam intact, power station (Aztaec side) destroyed in war.   Locks work, on generator, when fuel is available.

Four-Reed Creek Dam - Pochata, above mouth of o'Nookatorinee River
Dam damaged during war, completely repaired.   One of five generators works - others scavenged to keep it going.   Lock A (the shorter one) fully functional.   Lock B upper gates jammed open by debris from bombed lock wall.

north edge of Chzn'octl Dam - damaged spillwaysChzn'octl Dam - Aztlan (pictured)
Dam damaged during war; spills water but holds lake at four meters lower than intended level.   Locks and power plant are being repaired with the help of Limor & Limadestan military engineers.

Tlincticlanixton Lake Dam - shared with Aztlan
Just above mouth of the o'Jay River.   Dam is intact, lock intact, Aztlan-side power plant running five of seven generators (three of which are shut down at any one time - more capacity than there is load reconnected to the wires).   Major 174 KV transmission line repaired as far as Chic'maggia.   205 KV line on Aztlan side was broken in hundreds of places during the war - currently being repaired toward Mixtlan.   Some Pochata tribes technicians assisting, as are L&L engineer troops.

along o'Nookatorinee River, starting at mouth - all within PPN

Bend of Willows switchyard:
power for Pochata!Lonesome Persimmon Dam
Dam intact, single lock works (2nd mothballed - no current need).   Powerhouse has six generators - two work, others offline but intact - power lines gradually spreading outward from there.

Bend of Willows Dam, above t'Kanda
Dam OK, locks OK, power plant OK - all six generators run.   Power lines restored as far as t'Kanda and Smithfellow Dam.

Smithfellow Dam
Dam damaged in war but fully repaired.   Locks work.   Power plant totally destroyed in war - power from Bend of Willows operates locks.

on Jotoquo River - all within PPN

Quincy Sweetstone Dam
Dam, powerhouse, and locks all heavily damaged by retreating Aztalecs - all fully repaired by the CRV before December 1506.   Powerhouse has five generators; all work, though only two are needed at a time.   Power lines are restored as far as Landee.

Cougar Slot High Dam from aboveCougar Slot Low Dam
Cougar Slot High Dam -- 1 km apart; operated as one complex
Both were slightly damaged in the war - repairs were made in early 1506.   Single powerhouse, at Low Dam, has twelve generator sets, all functional.   Three at a time more than suffice for the needs of Old Ford and Wallantahatchee, as far as transmission lines have been restored.   No locks; the High Dam to Low Dam pool level difference is 228 meters.   Low Dam itself is 42 meters higher than the river below.

on Yellow Clay River - within PPN

Hopeful Wesley Dam
Dam intact, locks work on diesel generators.   Power plant badly damaged at the end of the war - scavenged parts from Smithfellow are being used to help repair - may be 1513 before the first generator is back online.   Meanwhile power lines are being extended from t'Kanda to Hopeful, and from Hopeful toward Heron-tu.

Dam repair - eastern

all that's left of the foundation of the Mesztaka locksDams and hydroelectric power plants in eastern PPN from south to north along the s'Anaa; letters are annotations on small map or detail map

A - Mesztaka Dam
All facilities destroyed.   Rubble blocks river; rapids passable by small craft during high flow.

B - Chaut Dam
Dam intact, power plant damaged, locks shut.   Two of sixteen generator sets appear to be undamaged.

Yomagua Dam - low waterC - Yomagua Dam
Dam intact, power plant working (all nine generators), locks work.   In daily use of navigable portion of s'Anaa.

D - Blue Farms Dam
Dam intact, power plant scavenged and inoperable.   Locks shut, but would operate if power was available.

E - Chokecherry Whistle Dam
Dam intact, power plant partly operational (two of ten generators).   Locks work, but need service.   This facility was one of the last occupied by bandits within PPN territory - they were routed actually after the PPN formation.   Facilities are decorated in and out with wall-to wall grafitti, even the surfaces of the dam and locks; a paint warehouse was on the premesis.

O'zbeta Dam - rainy seasonF - O'zbeta Dam
Dam intact, power plant sealed shut (no need until other facilities up and down stream work).   Locks shut but intact.

H - k'Tanaa b'Santu Dam
Dam intact, power plant destroyed by fire, locks appear operable on diesel generators.

J - Sozebaqa Dam
Dam destroyed, power plant destroyed, channel blocked by rubble; impassable.

Henderson Mill Dam - view due westK - Henderson Mill Dam
Dam intact, power plant functioning (on generator of eleven in use), locks would work OK if needed.   Henderson Mill was protected by a major tribal encampment through the whole period after the CRV dissolution - all is well kept.

L - Omberu't'onda Dam
Dam intact, power plant recently restored to operation (one of ten generators at a time in use), locks work OK; used for limited river traffic.

M - Wisteria City Dam
Wisteria City Dam - reconstruction, 1506Dam was badly damaged in fighting in 1505, crudely but effectively repaired by the CRV in 1506 as mostly rock and earth dam.   Power plant was destroyed by Aztalec saboteurs after the dam was repaired; the CRV was repairing it when the missiles flew in December 1506.   Pochata tribespeople have rebuilt the powerhouse building since then.   Materials are on site for installing seven generator sets and constructing a transmission switchyard.   The original facility had fourteen generators; if export of power to Aztlan is contemplated, that many and more may be restored. New building has space for twelve.   The locks work, on alcohol-fired generators.   The impoundment, Wisterian Lake, extends into Aztlan.

on Yminitaqa River

G - Bullwallow Falls Dam
Dam intact, power plant scavenged - no generators working.   Locks were jammed open by saboteurs in 1507 and stood that way for two years - some erosion of dam foundations occurred before they were shut.   They're welded and their mechanisms are damaged.

on Joisikatta River

Nictolapitieriee Dam - dry season/ secondary channel;
east channel is where locks are & majority of flowN - Nictolapitieriee Dam
Fully functional: the Nictona Town Power Company operates the dam and locks as well as the power house.   All ten generator sets work, though not all are needed at any one time.   Plains States Electric Co-Op personnel kept 'Nicto' running through the postwar period of chaos, even extending its power coverage into neighboring communities formerly serviced by other outfits.   Their lines extend as far south as the oilfields between and east of Giquatua and Flight-of-Doves.
