After the World Protestant Council
Now that most of the Hŕromszéki delegates have been back from the World Protestant
Council in Holy Cross for several weeks, the various sermons, homilies, and lessons
are returning to normal. It seems that right after returning the first lessons from
participants dealt much with defending the message of the faith from error. The
many varieties of Cruisian thought are of course sometimes at odds. This Aengelnian Council
did remind us that many of those divergent views are not barriers to shared worship.
The sessions in Cruis Cathedral saw Yom Baptizo Brotherhood pastors lifting up hands in praise right
next to Loirisean Luker laymen kneeling in reverent adoration.
The term that surfaced most among the many divergent denominations was "coordination".
Few of the Hz groups have any intention of combining, though that was one subject of
talks. Many even shied away from labelling any action as cooperation. Probably
the best that can be expected is that numerous mission groups resolved to at least
make each other aware of their plans and fields of work. That coordination is
expected to result in God's money getting spent a little more efficiently by His
workers - if not stopping duplication of effort, at least reducing it.
Conspiracy of the month
Have you been off work a few days this winter with the flu? Want something to blame
it on? Well this year's bad strain is all Andrea's fault! Or so it is said... This
month's... interesting ideas about world events include an alleged link
between Andrea's Space Development Corporation trip to Aeris and a nasty flu strain.
This howler was probably born in someone's poor hearing of one of this year's strains'
scientific name: Influenza
Erithizan. Which comes from an old thesian root meaning left-hand spiral, by the way. Not
from the planet Aeris. Where the intrepid Andreans found no viruses or any other diseases,
we are reliably informed. Of course the conspiracy theorists have it that the mission
was almost lost to an outbreak of virulent viral diseases on board the spaceship, not
from the reported engine-malfunction causes.
This would be funny, if some people didn't believe it. Actually, maybe that makes
it even funnier...
Kantu just get along?
If anyone expects to hear good things out of Kantu anytime soon, they've not
been listening to SCUN deliberations. Sometimes Hz's unwillingness to join with that
organization has obvious reasons - such as the virtual deadlock there about what to do in
Kantu, or even if anything should be done.
If on the surface the PRK is more repressive,
that just may be because less information is permitted out of the Republican
side of the island. In fact, the RK seems to think even less of the SCUN than
Hŕromszék does. The map colors the PRK's approximate area of control red - it changes weekly.
But a more realistic map would just show the whole of Kantu red - blood red. One estimate
has the casualties thus far at over a million Kantuvians dead and countless more crippled
and starving.
See the Kantu datasheet for more info on both sides of the conflict. Unlisted
are the exiled royalist faction (from before the Thesian occupation and Kantuvian revolution),
various theological groups, an anarchist group's claim to the whole island, and the
microscopic liberal democratic faction. The RK and the PRK are quite enough conflict
without bringing all those others into the mix.
